Ten (times 3) Haiku on Refugee ©

The immigration

Crisis must be addressed and

Not just refugees

Refugees are just

Those that are being threatened

Fear for survival

Someone will cite them

As different and dangerous

Fear will be invoked

Those that are against

Refugees are misinformed

They lack empathy

Privileges withheld

Isolation imposed and

Rights are eroded

Communities are

Denied resources housing

Their voices silenced

Natives postulate

Multiple scenarios

To deny entry

The term illegal

Immigrant is applied as

Reason to exclude

It is convenient

To forget that those who seek

Refuge have no choice

Refuge is sought for

Endless reasons and not all

Refugees are same

If the reason is

Politics or poverty

Can’t blame refugees

If the reason is

Lack of shelter or safety

Can’t blame refugees

If the reason is

Families are separated

Can’t blame refugees

If the reason is

Caused by climate change you

Can’t blame refugees

If the reason is

Natural disaster you

Can’t blame refugees

You might say that you

Don’t blame refugees but there

Has to be limits

The idea of

Imposing limits must be

Tempered by the heart

For instance the heat

Crisis and changing weather

Patterns are here now

Record number of

Consecutive days over

Hundred ten degrees

Flash flooding and

Tornadoes are happening

In large areas

High temperatures

Don’t exclude elongated

Severe cold events

All that’s happening

Now and driving internal

Climate migration

Heed this warning now

Americans will become

Climate refugees

The biggest challenge

Is need to change biases

To accept the truth

Once truth is endorsed

Then fear can be rejected

And solutions sought

Not all refugees

Are dangerous foreigners

They are just afraid

In the end the truth

Is refugees seek refuge

Foreigners or not

The answer is not

Fear but compassion for those

Facing certain death

The answers will be

Found in worldwide teamwork

Cooperation

If we don’t all work

We will be cutting off our

Nose to spite our face
