Ten (times two) Haiku on Health Decisions ©

I’m seventy-five

It’s crucial to always get

Enough exercise

Sleep is essential

Your body needs to recharge

Avoid excess stress

Don’t just feed your face

Balanced diet is vital

To promote best health

Avoid processed foods

Whole grains and whole fruits are key

Keep core substances

Vitamins include

C from citrus, A from fish

And more, ask doctor

Minerals include

Magnesium, nuts and seeds

And more, ask doctor

Make sure to hydrate

Drink plenty of water as

There’s much that’s gained

Your choice of doctor

As a partner and guide is

Key to fulfilment

Your doctor must be

Able to understand your

Desires and needs

Your needs are simple

Understand your maladies

No clandestine terms

Obvious knowledge

Upfront answers and choices

And consequences

Your doctor must take

The time to be certain that

You grasp all of this

The doctor should ask

You to show you understand

The choices given

The doctor must ask

What results you hope to have

What’s ok to lose

Make sure your doctor

Can be reached if in crisis

How best to contact

Be sure to set up

Clear legal protocols to

Cover your choices

Don’t allow yourself

Treatments and/or procedures

Worse than the disease

Pain and confinement

Without personal comfort

Or touch are unsought

Maintain your control

The minimum you must have

What’s next if can’t have

Accept that someday

Hospice could be needed and

May be the best choice
