Ten (times two) Haiku on I Want to Live ©

Many have asked this

If they haven’t they should have

What do we all share

It’s not trivial

It can’t be denied either

Or ever dismissed

A truth for us all

We are born, we live, and then

Finally, we die

This is true for all

Animals and even plants

Without exception

The question for man

Is what does live really mean

How is that unique

It has been said that

To live man needs food, safety

and breathable air

But there is much more

Most  animals protect their

Young and their shelter

If that’s all their is

Then food, health, and housing plans

Would be sufficient

Fair distribution

Of basics is not enough

There is so much more

Humans must feel that

They can achieve happiness

It’s fundamental

This basic need is

Only possible when we

Are seen to matter

When others see us

And recognize that we have

Dreams and skills our own

To truly live means

To feel never ignored or

Taken for granted

To truly live means

To have enough time to dream

To dream and to do

To truly live means

To build from scratch something that

Was not there before

To truly live means

To create a piece of art

Draw write sculpt perform

To truly live means

To create even when faced

With a handicap

To truly live means

To contribute even if

Wealth’s a barrier

To truly live means

That I believe in myself

And that I matter

Nothing can stop me

Because I truly know that

Yes I want to live
