What is so special

About cardiac rehab

Doctor said do it

The next step after

A serious heart event

Like a prescription

Do this exercise

Like aerobic, strength, stretches,

And education

It’s all of those things

With careful monitoring

And encouragement

We are so grateful

To our mentors that guides us

Through every phase

Careful to keep us

On track improve each session

Faster and more weight

Pay attention to

Form, posture, stress, and safety

We are in good hands

Is that all there is

Without nuance I guess so

But why should I care

For me it is clear

For me it’s not black and white

Not just doing it

Not just to prevent

A new heart attack or worse

There is more depth here

The thing that’s unsaid

The thing that makes it worth it

Emotional ties

Cardiac rehab

Doesn’t take place in a vacuum

There’re humans involved

People with fears and

Who recently suffered a

Medical setback

The real value

Are the human to human

Warm intimacies

This benefit can

Only be realized though

If open to it

So open your heart

Allow yourself to find pride

In accomplishments

Be sure to notice

And praise each other

Do not be distant

Louis Armstrong sang

In “What a Wonderful World”

Great wisdom with trust

Friends shaking hands and

Say how are you are really

Saying I love you

So when you arrive

And when you leave be sure to

Project love to all
