Ten Haiku Motif (times 3) on Cats ©

For fifty four years

I have been a cat person

Just what does that mean

My cat expertise

Can be said in a few words

Where, when, what, and why

Where are you Hershey

Where are you hiding Chuckles

Where are you this time

Check under the desk

No, on the couch, try the bed

Dining room chair pad

Dammit you’ve been in

The bedroom every day so

Why the hell not now

I look here and there

Everywhere finally grab

Turn on laser light

Pounce on that moving

Light, where were you my kitty

You’re laughing at me

At last I give up

I will never know where to

Predict where you’ll be

Frustrated to the

Point of distraction but wait

You’re rubbing my leg

You jump up to my

Lap purring loudly turning

On you back for pets

I rub your stomach

You stretch and lean your head back

You purr, Purr, and PURRRR!

You are so loving

I can’t help loving you back

You and I relax

Luxuriate and

Absent-minded give you pets

Lick my arm, rub, OUCH

Grabbed my arm with claws

Extended digging then bite

But lightly no pain

I get it now it’s

A game I relax but now

Your ears are flatten

Bites and claws are more

Serious eyes dilated

I push you away

I cannot tell when

To reach out or to back off

Unpredictable

One moment you are

So loving so near so soft

So so inviting

The next moment you’re

Distant so independent

What to do to try

You get on my head

In bed and lick my hair it

Feels good doesn’t last

I know finally

We live together but I’m

Just tolerated

You allow me to

Live in YOUR house as long as

I can accept this

You give me so much

To love but I must always

Remember my place

You, my kitty, are

Sovereign, stubborn, and aloof

Fickle, filled with purrs

In the end you know

I am your servant not your

Master never that

I give you the run

Of the house I feed you and

Keep your toilet clean

I cater to your

Whims and I love you oh so much

Love me in return

It hurt so much my

Jelly Bean upon your death

I cried and I howled

Eighteen years Corpus

A long long journey

I miss you Jelly Bean more

Than any other
